If your dentist, your diet coach, and your personal trainer haven’t already told you to stop drinking soda, then your financial advisor might be next on the list. Your soda habit is not only adding inches to your waistline, but it’s expensive as well. For the sake of your health and for the sake of your wallet, now might be a good time to stop drinking soda.

The Cost of Your Soda Habit in Calories and Dollars

A quick trip to the drive-thru lane or the convenience mart for a 64-ounce treat doesn’t seem expensive at the time, but if you add up the number of calories you consume over the course of a year and the cost of each drink, you might be surprised at the expense.

Check out these figures. The size and calorie count information is based on data from Coca Cola, McDonalds.com, CalorieCount.com and from the 7-11 Corporation. Each listing assumes that you’d be drinking Coke. Clear sodas like Sprite have calorie counts that are almost identical to Coke and some, like Mello Yello, are even higher.

Prices of drinks vary by location and can even vary from store to store.

    • If you drink one daily 7-11 Double Gulp (50 ounces), you consume 575 extra calories per day or 209,875 extra calories per year at a cost of $1.84 per day or $671.60 per year.
    • If you drink one daily 7-11 Super Big Gulp (40 ounces), you consume 460 extra calories per day or 167,900 extra calories per year at a cost of $1.63 per day or $594.95 per year
