Case Dismissed! Alternative Cancer Treatment Wins Big

Case Dismissed! Alternative Cancer Treatment Wins Big

November 24, 2012

The obstacles can sometimes seem insurmountable in our grassroots efforts to secure such basic freedoms as the right to consciously choose the foods that nourish our bodies and the holistic treatments to assist us if we get ill.

At almost every turn, a growing and increasingly belligerent government bureaucracy backed by Corporate taskmasters attempts to thwart our efforts by terrorizing small farmers whose only “crime” is the simple production of nutrient rich foods for their communities or putting on trial alternative cancer doctors actually curing patients without resorting to the life altering and physically agonizing cut, poison, burn approach of chemotherapy and radiation.

Even parents are now targets as those that seek to avoid the horrors of conventional chemotherapy for their ailing children find that they are forced into this outdated and barbaric medical paradigm by government authorities and refused “permission” to seek alternative treatments.

While the odds against us sometimes appear hopeless as we struggle to secure our health and wellness choices, now at least is a time to celebrate.

In recent days, Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski’s four year battle with the Texas Medical Board finally ended with outright dismissal of the case!

For those of you not familiar with the saga of Dr. Stan Burzynski, who was the subject of the 2010 Award Winning Documentary Cancer is Serious Business, here it is in a nutshell;

  • For over 10 years, Dr. Burzynski MD has successfully treated terminal cancer patients with the multi-agent gene targeted therapy he discovered in the 1970′s called Antineoplastons.
  • Antineoplastons completed Phase II of the required FDA-supervised clinical trials in 2009. Further, the FDA has given permission to begin the final phase of testing which involves randomized controlled clinical trials.
  • This highly successful alternative treatment devised by Dr. Burzynski involves designing a personalized cancer treatment for each and every terminal cancer patient under his care based on that patient’s individual and unique genetic markers.
  • The individualized treatments include off label use of already existing, FDA approved medications with no surgery, no chemotherapy and no radiation required.

Why has Dr. Burzynski been so relentlessly persecuted first by the United States Government and then the Texas Medical Board for so many years?

Follow the money my friends!

The multi-agent gene targeted therapy called Antineoplastons is a nothing short of a huge medical breakthrough that promises to completely shatter the cut, poison, burn Standard Of Care – surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment.  When clinical trials are completed and Antineoplastons approved, it will be the first time in history that a single individual and not a pharmaceutical company holds the exclusive patent to manufacture and distribute these gene targeted medicines on the open market.

In essence then, Dr. Burzynski’s work represents a two-fold threat to Big Pharma:

  1. The thankful demise of cut, poison, burn and the huge, monopolistic profits behind chemotherapy and radiation treatment for cancer.
  2. The rise of gene targeted cancer treatment with no pharmaceutical industry player profiting from these medicines.

That’s right – Big Pharma completely left out in the cold with regard to the sale and distribution of these new, ground breaking cancer medicines!

Parents have particular reason to rejoice that the case against Dr. Burzynski has been dismissed. One form of childhood cancer – diffuse, intrinsic, childhood brainstem glioma for which conventional medicine has no cure has been cured by Antineoplastons (with dozens of others). [ANP - PubMed 2003] [ANP - PubMed 2006] [ANP - Cancer Therapy 2007] [Rad & other - PubMed 2008] [Chemo/Rad - PubMed 2005]

Congratulations Dr. Burzynski on this huge win against the foes that are attempting to silence you and stop your amazing work.   The road ahead is still long until treatment with Antineoplastons is widely available to all Americans, but this recent victory brings a big one home for the little guy!

Chemotherapy can inadvertently trigger cancer resistance

August 6, 2012

Scientists may have a better understanding as to why some people become resistant to chemotherapy treatment, the BBC News reported.

According to a new study in Nature Medicine, researchers found the therapy can cause healthy wound-healing cells around tumors to “go rogue” and produce a protein that helps the cancer to resist the chemo.

Adapting to this effect could help a large number of patients, the BBC News said.  For about 90 percent of patients with solid cancers that spread – including breast, prostate, lung and colon – they eventually develop chemotherapy resistance.

Conducted by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, the study analyzed fibroblast cells, which are critically involved in wound healing and collagen production.  The scientists found chemotherapy caused DNA damage that, in turn, triggered the fibroblasts to produce 30 times more WNT 16B protein than normal.

According to the study, the WNT 16B protein helps cancer cells to grow and invade surrounding tissue, as well as developing a resistant to chemotherapy

Ripe Bananas & Anti-Cancer Quality

Ripe Bananas and Anti-Cancer Quality

April 24, 2012
The fully ripe banana produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells.  So don’t be surprised very soon the shop will go out of stock for bananas.

As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots or patches on the skin. The more dark patches it has, the higher will be its’ immunity enhancement quality.

Hence the Japanese love bananas for a good reason.

According to a Japanese scientific research, banana contains TNF which has anti-cancer properties. The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit, i.e. the riper the banana, the better the anti-cancer quality.

In an animal experiment carried out by a professor in Tokyo U comparing the various health benefits of different fruits, using banana, grape, apple, water melon, pineapple, pear and persimmon, it was found that banana gave the best results.  It increased the number of white blood cells, enhanced the immunity of the body and produced anti-cancer substance TNF.

The recommendation is to eat 1 to 2 bananas a day to increase your body immunity to diseases like cold, flu and others.

According to the Japanese professor, yellow skin bananas with dark spots on it are 8 times more effective in enhancing the property of white blood cells than the green skin version.

How does TNF kill cancer cells?

Tumor necrosis factors (or the TNF-family) refer to a group of cytokines family that can cause cell death.

Mechanism

TNF acts via the TNF Receptor (TNF-R) and is part of the extrinsic pathway for triggering apoptosis. TNF-R is associated with procaspases through adapter proteins (FADD, TRADD, etc.) that can cleave other inactive procaspases and trigger the procaspase cascade, irreversibly committing the cell to apoptosis.

.TNF interacts with tumor cells to trigger cytolysis or cell death. TNF interact with receptors on endothelial cells, which leads to increased vascular permeability allowing leukocytes access to the site of infection. This is a type of localized inflammatory response, although systemic release may lead to septic shock and death.

3-Minute Health Fixes

3-Minute Health Fixes

A smiling woman making a salad(BlackDoctor.org) – So you want to kick your healthy living up a notch? Good for you! But where to start? Well, it’s a combination of lifestyle habits that really makes the difference.

Following are totally doable tricks that can offer big benefits. These little health moves can make you stronger, smarter—even happier.

Stop a migraine. Have sex! Many people say a headache is a reason to not have sex. In fact, there’s data that in 66% of women, having sex at the initiation of migraine symptoms prevents the headache from coming.

Ease back pain. Strengthen your core. A lot of back pain is not just about weak back muscles; it’s about having weak core muscles. Get a 10 minute core workout DVD and do it 3 – 4 times a week. That way you’ll get the variety of exercises you need, without focusing too heavily on one area, like the abs.

Boost your immune system. Take 1,000 IU of vitamin D a day. D greatly affects your immunity, in addition to enhancing bone density.

Fight cancer. Eat a cup or more each day of organic blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, or black raspberries. These dark berries contain a number of phytochemicals that may protect against cancer in general, and may specifically help prevent esophageal, colon, and mouth cancers.

Sharpen your memory. Take tech breaks. Digital technology has increased our ability to scan and get just the essence of something, but that also leads to an inability to retain information. Set a hard and fast rule that all tech goes off at 7pm, or that there’s no tech happening during family time. During the break, you’ll be able to digest all of the information you’ve been taking in, think about what’s important, and plug it into your memory.

Lower your blood pressure. Walk at least 10,000 steps a day (track it with a pedometer). Take the stairs, walk around your office, walk to work, or park your car farther away from your train platform or office building. Do this regularly for a few weeks, and your blood pressure tends to go down.

Prevent Diabetes. Floss your teeth once a day. It decreases the reaction that makes your blood vessels more vulnerable to diabetes and inflammation.

Keep your digestive system going. Eat more fiber. That small move may help prevent colon cancer and ease constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. And the benefits go beyond the GI tract: Think lower cholesterol, higher energy, weight loss, and possibly even a lower risk of heart disease.

Reduce breast cancer risk. Exercise. Start a running or walking group, or an exercise group with friends. You will stick with it because you don’t want to let your friends down, it will help with weight control (which is key for breast cancer prevention), and the support will help you deal with stress.

Cancer Drug Reverses Alzheimers in Mice

Cancer Drug Reverses Alzheimers in Mice
Februray 11, 2012
By Joseph Brownstein, MyHealthNewsDaily

A cancer drug has succeeded in reversing Alzheimer’s disease in its early stages in mice, according to a new study.

The drug, bexarotene, is designed to reduce levels of amyloid beta, the protein whose presence in the brain has been most closely tied to the development of Alzheimer’s.

In a new study, mice treated with bexarotene saw their amyloid beta levels drop 25 percent within six hours and, importantly, they showed a corresponding improvement in their cognitive function.

“The data we provide here really suggest that Alzheimer’s could be, in the early stages, a reversible disease,” said study author Paige Cramer, a doctoral student in neuroscience at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.

The researchers used mice that had a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease. After the researchers administered varying doses of bexarotene, they measured levels of amyloid beta in the brain and tested the mice for their abilities in maze running, nest building, smell, and fear conditioning, which is a type of learning.

“They did a lot of different tests of learning and memory and they saw an effect on every single one of them,” said Michael Sasner, a research scientist and associate director at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Bexarotene is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, a type of skin cancer, and so it may be able to proceed through clinical trials more quickly than drugs not already known to be safe to administer to people.

The study appears in the Feb.10 issue of the journal Science.

A new way to target Alzheimer’s

Sasner, who was not involved with the new study, said it overcomes some of the weaknesses of previous Alzheimer’s work, in which only one or two tests of cognitive improvement were conducted.

Bexarotene is not the first attempted Alzheimer’s treatment to target amyloid beta. But past research has aimed at removing the plaques that amyloid beta can form in the brain, which has not shown any effect on the disease itself.

The difference now, researchers say, is in a better understanding of amyloid beta and the various forms it can exist in. Rather than focusing on the plaques, researchers now think it is the active, soluble form of the protein that is at work in Alzheimer’s.

While there are various views on the causes of Alzheimer’s, “the predominant view right now is that it’s the soluble forms of amyloid beta that are causing the impaired brain function,” Cramer said. “Plaques are just sinks, just tombstones that gather amyloid beta.”

Bexarotene works by promoting the production of another protein, called Apolipoprotein E, which binds to and clears amyloid beta from the brain.

“This paper lends a lot to the mechanism of how ApoE may be involved in Alzheimer’s,” Cramer said.

Hurdles remain

It remains to be seen whether the benefits of bexarotene in mice would translate to humans.

“Because we’re using an FDA-approved drug, this allows us to translate these basic science findings to the clinic; that’s our next goal,” Cramer said.

Figuring out the correct dosing presents another challenge. Researchers found that in one case, giving bexarotene over several doses appeared to be less effective than giving it once. Cramer said the reason may be that the drug degrades itself within the body.

Cramer said she and Gary Landreth, the senior investigator on the study, hope to begin a preliminary trial this year, in which they will look for the same changes in beta amyloid levels in humans. If successful, the testing would move to clinical trials.

Bexarotene is currently sold as Targretin; patents on that drug will expire in April.

“There’s a long way to go to prove this treatment in humans, but it seems like an exciting thing to follow up on,” Sasner said.

The Medicinal Marvel That Is Flaxseed

The Medicinal Marvel That Is Flaxseed

January 22, 2012

Flaxseed has remarkable therapeutic properties, with over 50 potential applications in the prevention and treatment of disease, as documented in the peer-reviewed biomedical literature itself*

Flaxseed’s role in breast cancer is one of the more compelling areas of research, considering this is the #1 form of cancer afflicting women today, and that most women still equate “prevention” with subjecting themselves to annual breast screenings involving highly carcinogenic 30 kVp gamma rays — overlooking entirely the role of diet, as well as avoidable chemical exposures. (More on this topic)

Given that flaxseed already has an exceptional nutritional profile, there are a broad range of reasons to incorporate it into the diet, even if only as a nourishing food. The main reason why the public is so enthralled by flaxseed (and rightly so!) is for its relatively high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, and the density of soothing, mucilaginous fiber it contains. Now, an accumulating body of scientific research reveals flaxseed’s hitherto secret ‘second life’ as a medicinal powerhouse, confirming how timelessly true was Hippocrates proclamation that food is also medicine.

In 2005, the journal Clinical Cancer Research published a placebo-controlled study involving patients who received a 25 gram flaxseed-containing muffin over the course of 32 days. After observing a reduction in tumor markers and an increase in programmed cell death (apoptosis) in the flaxseed-treated patients, the authors concluded: “Dietary flaxseed has the potential to reduce tumor growth in patients with breast cancer.”

Additional animal research supports flaxseed’s role in suppressing human breast cancer. In immunosuppressed mice (thymus removed), flaxseed and an extract of pure secoisolariciresinol diglucoside from flaxseed was capable of suppressing the estrogen-fed (estradiol-17 beta) growth of transplanted human breast cancer tumors.

Can you treat cancer with nutrition? Here’s what doctors are doing right now
by Tara Green

(NaturalNews) While the majority of the cancer establishment continues to seek a magic bullet pharmaceutical cure for cancer, another group of physicians has been taking a fresh look at the concept of a nutritional cure. It turns out that preventing, or even reversing, some forms of cancer may involve not the development of expensive drugs, but something as natural as sunshine.

In the Lab
In a laboratory study JoEllen Welsh, a researcher with the State University of New York at Albany, took human breast cancer cells and treated them with a potent form of vitamin D. The cancer cells shriveled and died within a few days of exposure to megadoses of “the sunshine vitamin.”

“Vitamin D enters the cells and triggers the cell death process,” said Welsh. She described the processes as “similar to when we treat cells with Tamoxifren [anti-cancer drug which causes adverse reactions in many women].” Researchers repeated the petri-dish experiment in mice, injecting them first with breast cancer cells and then with Vitamin D. After several weeks, the cancer tumors in the mice shrank by 50 percent. (Read Full Article)

Black Men At Highest Risk For Oral Cancer

(BlackDoctor.org) — African American men have the highest risk of developing oral cancer compared to any other group in the U.S. population. It is a cancer which occurs twice as often in the Black population as in whites, and survival statistics for Blacks over five years are also poorer at 33%, versus 55% for whites. Most cases of oral cancer are linked to cigarette smoking, heavy alcohol use, or the use of both tobacco and alcohol together. In fact, using tobacco plus alcohol poses a much greater risk than using either substance alone.

Certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) may also play a part in oral cancer. It’s not just smokeless tobacco (“dip” and “chew”). Using tobacco of any kind, including cigarettes, puts you at risk for oral cancer, and the risk of only increases with age—most oral cancers occur after age 40. The death rate associated with this cancer is particularly high not because it is hard to discover or diagnose, but due to the cancer being routinely discovered late in its development

What Are the Possible Signs and Symptoms of Oral Cancer?

•    A sore, irritation, lump or thick patch in your mouth, lip, or throat
•    A white or red patch in your mouth
•    A feeling that something is caught in your throat
•    Difficulty chewing or swallowing
•    Difficulty moving your jaw or tongue
•    Numbness in your tongue or other areas of your mouth
•    Swelling of your jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly or become uncomfortable
•    Pain in one ear without hearing loss

Be on the lookout for any changes in your mouth, especially if you smoke or drink. (Read more)

Donations pour in to help woman with bone cancer

SALEM, Ore. – Donations are pouring in from across the country after the story of a local woman fighting bone cancer went viral on the Internet.

Jan Cline was holding yard sales each weekend in her backyard to raise money to pay her medical bills, but the city of Salem shut her down after a neighbor complained. A city ordinance prohibits people from holding more than three yard sales a year. The city has the ordinance because it says in the past people had set up flea-market-type sales on their property.

The story galvanized people who were outraged the city wouldn’t make an exception for Cline.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, people have donated $16,500 to help Cline, and earlier in the day Salem’s mayor, Anna Peterson, pledged to help her.

KATU’s original story got picked up by the ABC News website and then by others. Additionally, Cline’s friends set up a website and “it just went into overdrive from 7 o’clock on it just hit the gas,” said computer expert and friend Brad Brunhaver.

Donations and messages have been coming in from places like Lubbock, Texas, Jackson, Miss. and San Jose, Calif.

The mayor of Salem said she’s received phone calls and e-mails from around the country. Peterson’s working to get Cline’s yard sale moved to a commercially zoned location so she can hold more and bigger sales.

“Hopefully, also that other people could donate things to her that she can sell at the garage sale,” she said.

Cline said she’s not thrilled at the idea of moving her yard sales. On principle she thinks the city should make an exception to its rules.

But she’s grateful for people like the man who saw $2 candle sticks in KATU’s story and is sending $100 to buy them.

“I am totally amazed at the generosity of people and how quickly it’s growing,” she said.
